Dog Catching Competition

As you have read in my recent writeup on the above, as well as a site that you can sign up for a petition against such barbaric act.

Now to make it more interesting since Majlis Perbandaran Selayang had started it, there was a suggestion by some readers on this article which are as follows:

Haza suggested:

HOMELESS PEOPLE CATCHING COMPETITION

I suggested:
ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT CATCHING COMPETITION

Jamie suggested:
CATCH AND NEUTER THE MPS COUNCIL COMPETITION

Someone in The Star suggested:
MAT REMPIT CATCHING COMPETITION
~ does the municipals have the guts to do it!!!

Malaysia Government:
"PERSON WHO BURNT JALUR GEMILANG" CATCHING COMPETITION

Does the first two options make a lot of sense to ensure safety and harmony in the country vs those barbaric act of MPS. Cast you feedbacks to me.

NEW UPDATES

~ MPS had scrapped the Dog Catching Competition

If he can run, why cant we....

A 72 year old veteran, succeeded in his application to run in this year ING New York City Marathon. His weekly mileage to train for this race is 80k per week. He definitely doesnt looks like a 72 year old man. He is so agile and his movement is like a young man. His heart, definitely younger, bigger and stronger than anyone else. So if he can run, why not we !!!!!!

Cinya SALUTE him, all the best to you in the coming ING NYC Marathon.

Competition

We have all kinds of competition in Malaysia from sports to anything ~ you name it, we have it. And now the Majlis Perbandaran Selayang had been so damn creative that they organized a Dog Catching Competition. Read more about it here. What a barbaric act!!!!!

But are we all taught to be caring to all kinds of living creatures that God created (whether if you are a Muslims, Christians, Buddhist, etc). This barbaric action had caught lots of attention. To read more and support action against this insane proposal by Majlis Perbandaran Selayang, go here. And here

Mizuno Wave Run 10k

This is my comeback race after been dormant for almost 1 month. To be exact my last race was Aug 5. No running what so ever since then. The day didnt started on the right note cos I overslept!!!! Only woke up at 6.00am ~ no time to do the morning business, no breakfast, blah blah blah.

Luckily the race site is in town else there is no way I can reach on time. Managed to find a parking slot at Bukit Aman. The place was already in full swing with activities having runners all ready for the race. Did some stretching and warmup, and as usual bumped into some running frens. Time to walk down to Padang Merbok at 6.45am

Met some PMs at Padang Merbok and by 7.15am all runners were requested to masuk kandang and be ready for the race. As my fitness sucks big time, I put no pressure on myself to run a fast race. To me any thing under 60mins will be a BIG BONUS for me.

The race started on time, gun off by Datuk Siah Kok Chi. From the very beginning I was running very cautiously so as not to burn myself out since we have to take on the Double Hill and the last uphill towards the end near the Forestry Department.

Photo courtesy from Pacesetters official photographer

First 5km was ran under easy pace and consistently I was able to maintain a 5.30min/km pace. I was really surprised that I can do that even when my fitness is not up to mark. Decided to maintain this pace as long as I can, and I shud be able to finish the race under 60mins if I dont slack.

At the Double Hill stretch I slowed down just to conserve my energy. I took the uphill with ease and in no time I am out of it and onto the hi-way leading towards the Forestry Dept. I took on the last uphill stretch without any problem and turning towards Tugu Negara. At this point it shud be around 2km from the finishing.

I turn on my turbo (as what PM1 always do) and start to potong sayur from here onwards. Was cruising at faster pace and reaches Tugu Negara, then turn left onto Jalan Parlimen. Maintain my turbo pace and crossed the finishing line in 56mins38secs under a Garmin 205 measured distance of 10.6km. Was quite satisfied with my timing although a sub-55mins will be even more appealing but no complains under the kind of fitness I am at currently.

So this is the last race before the 1 month break for the Hari Puasa season where our Muslim frens will be going thru. And this will be a time for me to regain my fitness.

SELAMAT HARI BERPUASA to all Muslim frens.

Las Vegas aka The Sin City

Last year I strolled the streets of Las Vegas in the nite, but this year I was walking The Strip under the scorching sun of 40 degree C. I felt the burning sensation on my skin as I walk ~ hopping from hotels to hotels, but luckily it wasnt humid else I will be cooked.

Mojave Desert ~ along the way from LA to LV ~ it was a 4 hour drive under very hot condition

I had one of my dinners here. An interesting place to dine and a glass of chilled beer!!!!

The Venetian ~ build around the City of Venice

The Wynn ~ one of the newest hotels along The Strip. They offered the best Japs buffet in town. Cost USD50 for a Eat-All-You-Can meal. Obviously I tried it.

Put It On

PUT it ON ~ the Tagline from Victoria Secrets. What a tagline!!!
This picture was taken in one of the FashionShow Mall in Las Vegas.
Does the majority of Americans put it on, or they just dont wear it.
You have to figure it out yourself.

I am back

I am back from the US trip but am I back from a fitness perspectives. No way Jose!!! With the heavy American meals and big serving that i had in Las Vegas to be exact, I have kinda put on some weight. My fitness is not up to mark, and so probably no races for me till Sept. I will try to attempt running the Mizuno Wave Run organize by Pacesetters but I know timing will be sucks. Just take it casually and good thing I am not training for any competitive races for the time being. So have to start my training regime all over again.

Adidas King Of The Road

Before I start my race report, I would like to bid farewell to Pelle and family. After been living in Malaysia for almost 2 years (I met him during the Putrajaya Marathon 2005) he and his family will be moving his base to Korea (next week). The photo was taken before the race starts this morning (courtesy of KC). All the best and good luck to you and family. Do contact me when you are down in KL the next time. Adios amigo!!!

Back to the race. I anticipate the race to be run on an open hi-way. The race started on time by Sami Veloo, at least he didnt talk kok, i mean talk rubbish. He just said 1-2-3 and the race was started.

I started off very slowly since I am feeling very tired (stress out during year end closing) the week before leading to race day. Was running the first 5 km with Pelle at talk kok pace, I mean talking pace. Bumped into Wan Yew Loong and talk with him for a while and move on, then met Ah Grace and had a quick chat too. Not too far off saw Yee Hwa and had a quick chat too, then Ann, Kelvin PM2, Chee Wee, Mah Chai Meng - KRI and Lee from Penang. Slow down my pace when having a chat with all these people I know. I was not going for time and because of my tiredness I decided to take it easy.

At the 10k U-turn when one exit to Old Klang Road, the tiredness started to get worst. My pace are much more slower now and I just maintain it without pushing myself too hard. This continue until I crossed the finishing line in a time of 1h46mins. The distance covered that was shown on my Garmin Forerunner 205 was 19.6km (an under distance race). Anyway I was within the 2h15mins qualifying time and got myself a medal and certificate (which I hope the organiser will send to me)

Mingle around before having a quick breakfast and head for home. Then I got the scare of my life when I was at home resting.......

To Pia or Not To Pia

Two weeks, Two races and Two death....Cinya!!!! I am lost for words and sad to hear such news.

This is almost unbelievable and such incidents hardly happened in the sports scene 10-15 years ago. So wats happening now?. Izit pure carelessness or just coincidental. Last week I was informed that a participant actually got drown and passed away in the PD Triathlon event. Wat actually happened to him that causes his death, I dun know. If anyone know the root cause please share with everyone so that we are aware of it.

And today I was again informed that a 48 year old man passed away after finishing the Melaka Half Marathon race. Wat happened to him.....did he pushes himself too hard and trigger a heart attack. Does he had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and hypertension that trigger the attack. All these are possibilities to any runner especially when one doesnt know their own condition. So its extremely important to know your personal blood pressure and heart condition, especially when you are 40 years old and above.

So the next Q for myself is whether to really push myself in races. Or just take it easy from now on and run comfortably. Izit really beneficial to one when we race week in week out? Do we need to allow more time to rest our body before the next race? I think the most important thing here is to listen to our body and not pushes it too hard. Else it will just give way and we will collapse. I dont have all the answers and hopefully someone can make some comments here, especially those in the medical profession.

Take care all and run well.

So no sleep probably until very late tonite and I wont be running tomorrow. Maybe a short 10k if I can wake up but I would also like to catchup with some sleep. Lets see how it goes.

And to all running during this weekend in Bangi, the race will be bless by Hang Tuah and those traveling further south to Melaka, the race will be bless by Hang Li Poh. Good luck to all especially GL. Make sure you win some money back again.
